Spicket River walk: explore its history and ecology – Lawrence, MA

Join us for a walk along the Spicket River in Lawrence to learn about the history and ecology of this important tributary to the Merrimack River. Highlights will include the confluence of the river with the Merrimack, the historic weir of the North Canal, the Spicket River Greenway, dam ruins, and the confluence with Bloody Brook. We will also discuss some of the challenges and opportunities facing the river, and the work that MRWC and other partners are doing to develop a watershed-based plan for the Massachusetts section of the river and ways that you can get involved in that effort.

The walk will commence at 9 AM and should conclude by noon at the latest. The route walked is 3 miles long. As summer weather has been unpredictable, please come prepared for the heat. Bring sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, light clothing and plenty of water. The rain date for this event will be the following Sunday, August 6. More details on the route and parking information will be shared closer to the day of the hike. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to Matthew Cranney at mcranney@merrimack.org.
