From Ice Age to Climate Change: Newburyport’s Evolving Waterfront
This event has been postponed due to high temperatures and potential thunderstorms. The new date is Thursday, July 28th at 1pm.
Join MRWC’s John Macone for an amble along Newburyport’s waterfront, where we will explore the hidden past of the Merrimack River’s evolution — including the remnants of the Ice Age, Native American settlements and burial grounds, the long forgotten natural waterfront, and the dramatically shifting sands of Plum Island. We’ll also look at the impact of climate change on Newburyport and the local coast.
This tour lasts about an hour, and requires walking about a mile and a half on sidewalks and the riverfront rail trail. We will meet in the middle of Market Square in downtown Newburyport.
