The Merrimack: Lowell’s Lifeline and Legacy

Throughout Lowell’s history, the Merrimack has been the city’s most vital resource – a source of food, transportation, communication, recreation, mill power, and drinking water. Join John Macone of the Merrimack River Watershed Council as we explore Lowell’s riverfront, learn about the river’s past, its current condition, and the hopes and challenges for its future.
This is a free event, part of the annual Lowell City of Learning Festival. We will gather at the Textile Memorial river overlook park, located in the vicinity of 189 Pawtucket Street, and we’ll proceed for about a mile and a half along the Merrimack River riverwalk, then back to the Textile Memorial park.
